Name Game
Does this make your mouth water?
Probably not.
By today's professional naming standards, McDonald's might not have survived the first round.
It doesn't describe the product. It doesn't communicate a benefit. On paper, it's just a common surname. A committee could easily pass it over in favor of something built around memorable moments and shared experiences. On paper, you could make a case for a stronger name. In reality, it isn't even close.
Names don't become iconic by being clever. They become iconic by consistently delivering on a promise. For over 80 years, McDonald's has transformed an ordinary name into one of the world's most recognized and emotionally resonant brands.
A great name gives you a head start. A great brand gives your name meaning.
Turns out, McDonald's wasn't the perfect name. It became one.
